Unnerving Stereotypes

Age carries a few unnerving stereotypes that do not necessarily need to apply. There are stereotypes from everything concerning energy to the fun that is never had to the sexual intimacy that supposedly has disappeared. These are all old wives’ tales that have no actual relevance to age. Age is just a number and nobody needs to become a story book characterization that is defined by stereotypes.

There are no limits on people unless people wish to be limited. There is no need to succumb to stereotypical behavior just because you have yet one more birthday behind you. Instead you get to define your own behavior and your own lifestyle rather than determine your course based on someone else’s stereotype of how you should behave simply based on your age. Life is about creating your own definition rather than obliging the ideas that were put together by people who are younger than you and have no idea of what your age might mean to you. After all, when you are twelve you believe being thirty is old. When you are thirty, fifty doesn’t seem like it’s as old as it once seemed. Why we think it is okay to allow someone who has never stepped into our shoes to be able to determine the right stereotypes for us. That makes about as much sense as allowing the grocery clerk to create our financial portfolio for us. Stereotypes are assumptions, and we all know how we spell assume.
